Machete Attack Leaves DJ Mo Fighting For His Life In Kenol
Popular gospel DJ Samuel Muraya, widely known as DJ Mo, is recovering in the hospital after being attacked by suspected robbers armed with pangas near Kenol on March 13.
This was confirmed by his wife, also a popular gospel musician, Linet Munyali, also known as Size 8 Reborn.
Size 8 shared an emotional update online while thanking God that her husband survived the violent encounter near the Kenol area.
DJ Mo was reportedly travelling through the busy Kenol junction in Murang’a County when the attackers struck, targeting his valuables and leaving the gospel entertainer nursing injuries after the frightening encounter.
In her message, she explained that the assailants were armed with pangas and managed to steal Muraya’s phone before fleeing.
They left the DJ injured but alive after a tense moment along the highway corridor nearby.
“Today, I post to give God glory for safeguarding my husband’s life, DJ Mo. He was in Kenol when thieves attacked him with a panga and took his phone,” she said.
Despite the ordeal, Size 8 said she remained grateful that her husband survived the incident, emphasising that his life had been spared. “Dear God, thank you for life,” she wrote.
DJ Mo sustained injuries to his arm, which, according to videos shared online, had deep cuts following the panga attack.
It is unclear whether he sustained any further physical injuries.
DJ Mo remains one of the most recognisable figures in Kenya’s gospel entertainment space, having helped transform gospel DJing into a respected profession capable of competing with mainstream secular entertainment today.
Breaking through around 2010, the entertainer steadily built a reputation for fresh music mixes and large audiences.
Through his talent platform System Unit, Muraya has also mentored young DJs and dancers.
He also helped nurture a new generation of performers who continue shaping gospel-inspired entertainment across Kenya and the wider East African scene.
His long-running role as resident DJ on Crossover 101 on NTV Kenya from 2011 to 2021 further amplified local gospel music.
