Goons Disrupt Niko Kadi Initiative In Kitale, Local Leaders Blamed

The Niko Kadi initiative, a voter registration exercise in Kitale, was temporarily halted on Saturday, April 11, after goons infiltrated the exercise.

Goons armed with crude weapons took over the exercise that drew hundreds of youths from the area, taking over the exercise before being compelled away.

Niko Kadi leaders blamed politicians for using youths to cause chaos, warning against the use of goonism, which has become a worrying trend in recent times.

Our initiative was simple. Talk to the youth to register as voters. But along the way as they registered as voters, some hired goons that disrupted us,” one of the initiative leaders stated.

“This is a planned disruption. it is a challenge because the same youths we are urging to come out and register as voters are being used to disrupt our meetings,” another one stated.

According to the Niko Kadi Initiative leader, Allans Ademba, the Kitale meeting drew the largest-ever crowd.

He continued to urge youths across the country to come out and register to take part in the decision-making process in the 2027 general election.

“This is the biggest turnout ever. We’ve even convinced those who didn’t bring their IDs to go back for them. Despite political infiltration, our aim of watu wakue Kadi is a success. Thank you, Kitale,” Ademba stated.

Their concern comes even as the initiative gains momentum countrywide, with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) recording high numbers of new registered voters since the initiative began.

According to IEBC, over 875,000 new voters have been registered in the past two weeks since the mass voter registration began, with Nairobi leading with 96,897 voters, followed by Kiambu with 46,265.
