NTSA Issues Fresh Notice To All Vehicle Owners

NTSA Issues Mandatory Inspection Orders For ALL School Vehicles

All school transporters will be required to present their vehicles for a mandatory inspection after the National Transport and Safety Authority announced fresh nationwide safety checks as learners return for the second term.

In a statement on Sunday, April 26, NTSA issued new orders stating that the inspections are aimed at ensuring that school buses and vans are mechanically sound and safe for transporting children during the back-to-school period.

According to the authority, the directive is part of the wider Watoto Wafike Salama initiative, which has been intensified to guarantee the safe transport of learners as schools reopen.

“All school transport operators are expected to present their fleets for inspection to confirm that the vehicles are mechanically sound and safe for transporting children,” NTSA stated in the statement.

Besides inspecting school transport vehicles, NTSA also announced that a multi-agency team will heighten strict road safety compliance checks across the country.

They urged all motorists to exercise high levels of responsibility while on the roads.

At the same time, the authority also called on parents, school administrations, and transport operators to prioritize children’s safety during the school reopening period.

“We call on parents, school administrations, and school transport operators to prioritise the safety of our children during this period,” it added.

The statement from the authority comes at the back of a fatal crash along the Narok-Mahi Mahiu road, claiming seven lives on the spot.

The incident that occurred between Ntulele and Duka Moja involved a trailer and a Toyota Voxy, an accident that left all occupants of the Voxy dead on the spot.

According to police reports and witnesses, the trailer lost its brakes before ramming into the Voxy along the busy highway.
