Duale Confirms Kenya-U.S. Deal For Ebola Quarantine, Testing
Kenya’s Health Cabinet Secretary, Adan Duale, has declared that the country is establishing holding areas around its borders to prevent any potential Ebola cases that may enter from Uganda or the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In a press interview on May 27, Duale revealed that the government has sent screeners and verification teams to all key border crossings.
He stated that mobile laboratories are now fully operating at the Kenya-Uganda and Kenya-South Sudan border crossings.
“Under serious screening and verification, we are also putting up a holding area within the border in the event that we get a case. So the country is fully prepared for this border,” stated Duale.

The CS also stated that three national laboratories are operating around the clock, testing specimens for Ebola seven days a week.
This is part of Kenya’s overall effort to discover and isolate any cases as early as possible.
Additionally, he also revealed that the government has launched a traceability program targeting anyone who visited the affected region in the past month.
Different officials are actively tracking and testing such individuals across the country.
“Thirdly, and we’re saying we’re doing a lot of traceability,” said Duale.
“Anybody we feel who has been to that region in the last one month, we are we are we are testing them and making sure that we protect our country.”
The CS took the opportunity to urge Kenyans to take personal responsibility, asking families to watch out for relatives who recently travelled to Uganda or the DRC and are showing any signs of illness.
“Any of your relatives who feel sick and have recently visited Uganda or DRC, please go to the nearest medical facility so our health workers can check,” urged Duale.

This comes as the deadly Ebola Sudan strain continues to spread in neighboring Uganda, raising alarm across East Africa and pushing health authorities to respond before the virus reaches Kenyan soil.
Beyond the continent, the United States government is reportedly planning to send its Ebola-exposed citizens to Kenya.

The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has since issued a Travel Advisory enforcing strict health screening and precautionary measures for all travellers.
However, commercial flight operations into and out of the country remain open.
