‘They Dragged, Bullied Me!’ – Grace Njoki Describes Painful Ordeal In Police Hands
Grace Njoki, the woman arrested yesterday for reportedly disrupting Health Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa’s news conference on Monday, January 20, has described her suffering at the hands of police.
Addressing journalists on Friday morning, shortly after being released on Ksh10,000 bond, Njoki accused the police of abusing her rights by arresting her without cause.
While recounting her ordeal at the hands of the officers, Njoki said that she was arrested while seeking treatment at Ladnan Hospital in Nairobi.
She described sitting in the hospital room when she noticed a suspicious figure trailing her, and she claimed that the man traced her from Kenyatta Hospital to Ladnan Hospital.
According to Njoki, shortly after noticing the man, two persons approached her, one male and one woman, and warned her to submit or face arrest.
Grace Njoki Mulei, who was arrested for allegedly causing a disturbance at the Ministry of Health Boardroom, claims that she was threatened into writing a false statement without being informed of the charges against her.

“I asked them why they were arresting me and where they were taking me but they refused to tell me. They told me they were not arresting me,” Njoki narrated.
When the 61-year-old discovered the well-planned conspiracy to catch her, she revealed that she promptly told her son and husband about the occurrence.
However, the armed officers soon confiscated her phone and prevented her from contacting any of her family members or lawyers.
Njoki alleged that despite attempts by hospital staff to intercede, approximately 20 police officers from Pangani Police Station forcibly removed her.
“I was carried away by force out of the hospital where I had gone to receive treatment. I was dragged, pinched and bullied. All through they never told me the reason for the arrest,” Njoki lamented.

“They insisted that I should write a statement but they had not told me anything. All through that time, I felt threatened because I suffered from a heart attack.”

Njoki said that following her detention, the cops brought her to three different buildings before taking her to Capital Hill Police Station, where she spent the night awaiting her arraignment today.
Meanwhile, police with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) verified her arrest on Thursday, January 23.
The agency said that Njoki was tracked down to Hombe Road, off Juja Road, and arrested for allegedly causing a disturbance.
