REVEALED: Why Gachagua Gifted Martha Karua With Fattened Sheep

In an unexpected turn of events, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has apologized to Nark-Kenya Party leader Martha Karua, as he strives to solidify his position as the mountain’s monarch.

The two leaders, who were previously adversaries and frequently criticized each other because of their opposing political ideas stemming from their disparate political affiliations, met at Karua’s residence in Gichugu, Kirinyaga County, for what appears to be reconciliation.

Gachagua, who was accompanied by his wife Dorcus Rigathi, and his allies were enthusiastically welcomed at Karua’s residence, in a gathering that demonstrated profound solidarity and alliance.

The Gachagua delegation to Gichugu brought gifts to Karua’s house, including goats, lambs, and farm goods that bore different meanings.

Gachagua gave Karua a mwatî, a young female sheep that has never given birth, as a blessing for the home.

“In the Kikuyu culture, when a man visits a female leader of any kind, he brings mwatî to the home to bring a blessing,” the master of ceremony asserted.

Gachagua, while gifting the former Azimio principal, said, “I have brought this sheep (mwatî) to the home of the strong leader of the community (ngatha ya ruriri), for all the animals in this household to thrive.”

Karua responded by saying, “I receive it with one heart, and I pray the same blessing and union.”

The male sheep, known locally as ndurume, travels alongside the female. This was also given to Karua in order to facilitate family reproduction.

The other sheep presented to Karua was a fattened ram named ngoima. This was given to Karua’s family and accepted by a men’s elder.

It was provided to the home for the family to share with visitors, and it is frequently consumed on the same day by both sides.

The final group of sheep given to Karua represented Gachagua’s kindness to the house and for the house to never lack anything when a community visits.

“I brought this ngoimas to you so that when people visit the home, don’t lack,” Gachagua asserted while smiling.

He refers to the youth, who have gained prominence since the split between Gachagua and Ruto, saying, “When itungati’s visit, they won’t lack.’
