‘I Can Speak For Myself!’ – CS Kabogo Speaks On Ruto-Uhuru Summit, His Appointment
William Kabogo, the new Information, Communications, and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary, on Monday made it clear why President ruto appointed him.
Kabogo stated that he is “one hundred percent certain” that his appointment to Ruto’s Cabinet is unrelated to the latter’s December visit to former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Gatundu residence in Kiambu County.
Ruto paid a visit to Kenyatta on December 9 for what he described as conversations about strengthening national unity and addressing Kenya’s tribal problems.
Many were surprised because their relationship had deteriorated since Ruto served as deputy president during Kenyatta’s administration.
Then, only 10 days later, Ruto nominated Kabogo, the former Kiambu Governor, alongside Mr Kenyatta’s supporters Mutahi Kagwe and Lee Kinyanjui for the cabinet.
On Monday, Kabogo dismissed allegations that his nomination was the result of the Gatundu meeting.
“I don’t know. People just make up things. Of course, it came just after the President’s visit to Ichaweri,” the minister told Citizen TV’s Trevor Ombija in an interview.
William Kabogo on how he got this appointment: I don’t know. Kenya is a vibrant nation with rumours, people just make up things. It came just after the visit of the President to Ichaweri. It had nothing to do with that visit. The former President did not call me, I haven’t spoken… pic.twitter.com/bC46KABvfO

“However, I can speak for myself and not Mutahi Kagwe or Lee Kinyanjui; I am one hundred percent sure it had nothing to do with that visit.”
Kabogo stated that he had not communicated with Kenyatta during the time he and Ruto met and that it had been “quite a while” since he and the former president had spoken.

“The only call I got the previous day was from (President Ruto), in which he said, I am looking at things and there is something I am working on,” said the CS.
“He did not say anything else. The next thing, I saw the news in the bulletin… I was very surprised.”
William Kabogo: The conversation with President Ruto was less than a minute and he said he would call again which he didn’t. That is the truth, that is the way it is. It surprises me as it surprises you. I am more than ready for this role. My track record is clear that I can… pic.twitter.com/Utk5HjYKR3

Kabogo stated that some people attempted to persuade him to refuse the assignment.
“Some people advised me not to take the post, but it is a service to the country. Why would I refuse to serve humanity if it means serving God?” he posed.
