‘Live Within Your Means!’ – MP Salasya’s Advises To Youth
Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has advised young people to live within their means rather than simulating a luxury lifestyle.
The young MP observed that young people who seek luxury and live extravagantly are more prone to experience financial difficulties.
Salasya agreed that economic issues, notably unemployment, make life difficult for Kenyans, highlighting the importance of judicious spending and investing.
He also urged young people against drunkenness, describing it as a clear path to financial disaster.
“The youth should live within their means because the moment you fail to do so, you will struggle,” Salasya said during an interview on NTV on Friday night.
“Don’t spend Sh20,000 or Sh30,000 on alcohol and buy expensive drinks for friends.”

He noted that many young people prefer a lavish lifestyle and entertaining friends over saving and investing, which he warned is an unsustainable practice.
Salasya advised individuals who do not drink to remain sober in order to avoid financial difficulties.
Recalling his time at Egerton University, he stated that he lived cheaply, spending Sh1,500 for a single-room rental while his peers spent lavishly.
“I was even overcharged for rent, but I lived in that simple house for all four years of university. One should accept themselves instead of faking a lifestyle,” he said.
Salasya stated that he just upgraded to a Sh3,000 residence after getting a job.

He also blasted the practice of young people displaying their money on social media yet living in a very different reality.
“I have been in politics for some time now, and I know many people who showcase wealth online, but when you meet them in person, their reality is far from what they portray,” he said.
The MP commented at a time when some young people have found themselves in legal trouble as a result of debt.
Others become depressed and frustrated as a result of life stressors and peer pressure.
