A judges court will sentence former Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu tomorrow after finding him guilty of corruption-related charges stemming from the illegal allocation of a Sh588 million road tender.

Waititu’s wife, Susan Wangari, the directors of Testimony Enterprises Limited, Charles Chege, and Beth Wangeci, and former Kiambu Roads official Lucas Wahinya were all found guilty.

They begged for a non-custodial punishment, claiming they had suffered greatly since their arraignment.

“We are sorry and ask for forgiveness from God and the court. We implore on court to have mercy and give us a second chance. We are on our knees,” they said through advocate John Swaka.

They strolled together as they presented themselves in court.

Waititu, his wife, and three others will spend the night in detention while they await their sentencing on Thursday.

Lucas, on the other hand, informed the court that he is the sole income for his family and that imposing a jail sentence will have a negative impact on their welfare.

However, the prosecution asked the court to impose a harsh sentence to act as a deterrent to anyone considering engaging in corrupt behavior.

Prosecutor Faith Mwila requested that the court evaluate the gravity of the offense and its impact on society.
