On Wednesday, the legislator was charged with six counts of forgery of academic certificates and one count of failing to appear in court on multiple occasions.

The second allegation alleges that Koimburi faked a certificate of participation in the East African Universities Accession Project from Jomo Kenyatta University of Technology (JKUAT) between September 2011 and April 2012.
According to the third count, Koimburi obtained an allegedly fake certificate from JKUAT’s School of Human Resource Development within the same time period.
Koimburi faces a fourth count of “knowingly and fraudulently” fabricating a KCSE certificate from KNEC at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission on March 8, 2021.
On the same day, the legislator handed over his certificate of participation in the East African Universities Accession Project from JKUAT to EACC.
On the sixth count, Koimburi is accused of presenting his School of Human Resource Development diploma from JKUAT to EACC on the specified date.
The politician was detained outside his residence on Tuesday morning and taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations’ (DCI) headquarters for questioning.
Charge sheet shows that Juja MP George Koimburi is being held for making false publications under Section 24(1) of the Computer Misuse and Cyber Crime Act No. 5 of 2018 and of offensive conduct under Section 94 of the Penal Code.

Koimburi was captured immediately after leaving his home on Kenyatta Road, Juja.
The legislator previously stated that the government spent over Ksh.13 billion campaigning for Raila Odinga in the African Union Commission (AUC) elections.
Koimburi, a strong critic of the administration, questioned the reason for the purported campaign spending, sparking a political discussion.
His lawyer, Ndegwa Njiru, had alleged that Koimburi was jailed for his comments about the AUC elections, in which Raila Odinga lost to Djibouti’s Mahmoud Ali Youssouf.
