Alego Usonga MP Succeeds Nyoro As Chair Of The Budget Committee
Alego Usonga Member of Parliament Sam Atandi was chosen unopposed as chairperson of the National Assembly’s Budget and Appropriations Committee.
He was the lone participant who had turned in his papers at the end of the nominations.
Standing Orders compel interested members to fill out forms and submit them a day before the elections.
The presiding clerk stated that the office received duly filled nominations from Atandi, who was proposed and seconded by Florence Jematia (Baringo WR) and Danson Mwashako (Taveta MP).
Mulu Makali (Kitui Central) and Atandi proposed Endebess MP Robert Pukose as vice chairperson.

The regulations state that if just one candidate is nominated, the clerk must legally declare that person elected without a vote.
“I declare Atandi as duly elected as chairperson and Pukose as duly elected vice chairperson,” the presiding clerk said.
Ndindi Nyoro, the Member of Parliament for Kiharu, held the job. He failed to defend his seat by the nomination date and did not attend the election meeting.
On taking his seat, Atandi acknowledged members of the influential budget team.
“This is a demanding responsibility. I applaud the broad-based government. We have reached this point because of the broad-based government,” the MP said.
“I thank my party leader Raila Odinga and President William Ruto for the idea of the broad-based government,” Atandi said.
He stated that the committee was taking over as members were questioning the previous committee’s performance. Atandi promised to ensure equal distribution of resources.
“We know the map of the republic of Kenya and know that resource sharing affects peace and stability.”

“We will ensure each country is a beneficiary of the resources bestowed upon us,” he said.
