Close Raila Ally Responds To Claims Of Secret Meeting With Gachagua
Professor Makau Mutua denied meeting with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former Attorney General Githu Muigai in secret on Friday, March 14.
Mutua rejected allegations on X (previously Twitter) on March 15 that he met with the two in Sarvid Garden, Kiambu Road, stating that he has never met Gachagua and has no plans to do so.
“Just to set the record straight. I met Gachagua, nor the former Attorney General Githu Muigai, at Sarvid Garden on Friday, March 14. I have never met Mr. Gachagua and have no plans to.”
“However, I did meet with my friend Paul Muite to catch up over the Nyama Choma. Too many idle people,” Mutua wrote.
JUST to set the record straight. I met neither @rigathi nor former AG Githu Muigai at Sarvid Gardens yesterday. I’ve never met Mr. Gachagua, and have no such plans. However, I DID meet my great friend SC @Paul_Muite there to catch up over Nyama Choma. Too many idle people!

The claims began on Friday when blogger Scophine Aoko Otieno, commonly known as Maverick Aoko, said that Mutua, a prominent ally of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, was seen with Gachagua and Githu Muigai at Sarvid Garden on Kiambu Road.
“Wa Munyoro (Gachagua), Githu Muigai, and Makau Mutua, who is Raila’s friend, are currently meeting at Sarvid Gardens, behind Quickmart, Kiambu Road. Interesting times ahead. Don’t worry, I will keep updating you,” Aoko posted.

This comes after Gachagua stated that he was willing to work with Odinga despite the latter’s close ties to President William Ruto’s administration.
Gachagua noted that the opportunity to collaborate with the former Prime Minister was not conditional, as Odinga was free to select which side of the political history books he wanted to be on.
On Monday, March 3, National Chairperson Gladys Wanga announced that Raila will examine Rigathi’s offer to join forces with him and the Orange Democratic Movement.

While addressing NTV’s Fixing the Nation, the Homa Bay Governor and senior ODM official appeared to hint that Odinga will consider cooperating with Gachagua as he plans his next political moves.
“We are going to look at all those things. Because when you want to cooperate, you have to look at what most nearly aligns with what you believe. So I think all of that is going to be considered,” she added.
The rumors of Mutua’s private meeting with Gachagua come as Nation reports that high-profile Kenyans seeking employment under the new Ruto-Raila handshake are queuing at the former premier’s office and residence.
Those close to Raila have stated that there are government officials aligned with Gachagua who are concerned about the impending cabinet and principal secretaries upheaval.
