IG Kanja Gives Update On Missing Kenyan Police Officer In Haiti
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja has provided an update on the missing Kenyan police officer, who is believed to have been slain when Haitian gangs ambushed their car.
The car became stranded in a trench built by the gangs, according to the Multinational Security Support Mission.
Kanja emphasized the importance of the Haiti mission during an unscheduled check at Karatina Police Station on Wednesday.
The IG stated that all operations result in injuries and that Kenyan police officers are well cared for.
“That officer is still missing and all efforts are in place to ensure that we get him,” Kanja assured.
“We want to promise the family of the missing officer that we are doing everything possible to get him back as soon as possible.”
He added: “Haiti is a very important mission to the national police service because we are supporting that country to ensure that their people can get peace and security back in their homes.

“However, it must be remembered that in all kinds of operations, including the ones back here at home, from time to time, an officer can get injured,” Kanja observed.
“But when they get injured, they are taken care of by being taken to hospitals and getting treated. If there is any officer who is injured, then they are well taken care of in terms of treatment.”
The announcement comes just one day after two more police officers were seriously injured during a patrol in and around the capital, Port-au-Prince.
The city is primarily dominated by heavily armed gangs, which are blamed for thousands of fatalities across the Caribbean country.
MSS spokesperson Jack Ombaka told Reuters that the two police officers were injured and had been transported to the Dominican Republic for specialized treatment.

The officers are said to have received gunshot wounds to the head and ears.
Questions are being raised about the quality of the armored personnel carriers and helmets provided to Kenyan police forces battling the gangs.
In March 2025, the first Kenyan police officer slain in the mission was buried at his home in Kajiado County.
A special search mission has been put in place to recover the body of the missing Kenyan police officers after the gang fled with it during the ambush.
