SYLVIA KEMUNTO: Prime Suspect In The Murder Of MMU Student Surrenders
Philip Eric Mutinda, the primary suspect in the murder of Multimedia University (MMU) student Sylvia Kemunto, surrendered to police in Sultan Hamud, Makueni County.
Mutinda, a first-year Electrical Engineering student at MMU, is suspected of the murder of Kemunto.
The deceased’s body was discovered on Wednesday night in a water tank on the roof of a hostel on the institution’s grounds.
On Sunday, March 30, 2025, Kemunto, a First Year Mass Communications and Computer Science major, went missing under strange circumstances.
Her mother, Triza Kwamboka, who lives in Kawangware, had sent her support funds via a church elder’s phone.
When she attempted to confirm that her daughter had gotten the money, her calls were unanswered.

Kemunto’s mother became anxious and traveled to the university, only to learn that her daughter had vanished.
The school’s administration confirmed her absence, causing the mother to submit a report at Langata Police Station, where an Occurrence Book (OB) entry was recorded.

Kemunto’s roommate had gone to church the day she disappeared, leaving her alone in their Block B apartment, number 90.
According to investigations, Kemunto’s lover, Philip Eric Mutinda, visited her room at 1 p.m. that day.
According to eyewitnesses, Mutinda was observed wrestling with a bag purportedly belonging to Kemunto as he transported it from her third-floor room to his own in Block E, room 301.
Later that night, Mutinda’s roommate apparently discovered the suitcase in their room, but it was gone the next morning.
