REVEALED: Why TSC Risks Dissolution As MP Files Disbandment Motion
Lugari Member of Parliament Nabii Nabwera has vowed to file a motion in parliament to disband the Teachers Service Commission (TSC), citing prejudice in recent teacher promotions.
Nabwera argued that the exercise was tainted by partiality, prejudice, tribalism, and an absence of regional balance.
He was addressing Kulumbeni village, Lugari, Kakamega County, at the start of a road reconstruction project.
While criticizing the criteria employed in the promotions, the legislator urged TSC to repeat the procedure, failing which he will move to dissolve the Commission.
“TSC has done the promotions with a lot of favouritism and tribalism. I condemn their actions,” the MP said.
“As members of the parliamentary education committee, we have summoned TSC officials to appear before us and give an explanation.”
“I am calling upon the chairperson of the Commission to rise to the occasion, or else I am bringing an impeachment motion to Parliament,” he added.

While addressing the locals, Nabwera stated that he would urge Parliament that the Commission’s further funds be suspended if the issue was not resolved.
The member also accused the Commission of shortchanging districts with large teacher populations, like as Kakamega.
He questioned how TSC gave an identical number of promotions to each region, despite population differences.
“I will recommend the halt of additional funds to TSC if they fail to correct the mistakes they made during the promotions,” the MP said.
“We cannot promote people based on equality; we promote people based on equity.”
He added, “I know all teachers in this country will support me on this one. There are teachers who have been in the teaching profession for 58 and 59 years but have never been promoted.”

The demand notice comes two days after the TSC released a list of 25,252 instructors who were promoted to various grades.
The whole list was posted to the Commission’s website on Wednesday, April 2.
The Commission conducted promotion interviews for post-primary school teachers between January 25 and February 6 this year, while primary school promotion interviews were conducted from January 13 to January 23, 2025.
The advancements were part of the Commission’s efforts to recognize and reward outstanding teachers for their hard work and dedication to their professions.
