The National Assembly has barred Falhada Iman, the nominated EALA Member of Parliament, from entering Parliament grounds after a video of her fight with nominated MP Umulkher Harun Mohamed went viral.
A dramatic altercation between ODM nominated MP Umi Harun and EALA MP Falhada Iman (both from Garissa County) at the Parliament Buildings on Tuesday afternoon has captured widespread attention after footage of the incident went viral on social media.

Speaking before the House on Wednesday, April 9, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula addressed the conflict between the two MPs and announced Falhada’s removal from the assembly.
Falhada’s exclusion from the House will last at least 90 days, and the EALA MP is expected to present a formal apology during that time.
“Honourable Falhada is therefore excluded from accessing parliament buildings and facilities for a period of 90 days save on the day and time when she will deliver her written explanation, in which case she will be escorted by the Sergeant at Arms,” Wetangula said on Wednesday afternoon.
Wetangula announced a lifeline for nominated MP Umulkher Harun, giving her the opportunity to explain herself before the House.
“Given that the incident involved a sitting member and a former member, I am inclined to first accord the current member Honourable Harun the opportunity to explain herself and to apologise to the house.”

Wetangula further stated that more instructions would be issued following a study of Falhada’s apology.
The Speaker further intimated that additional action could be taken against the two legislators when their respective apologies are examined.
During the same session, the Speaker advised Members of Parliament against photographing such incidents in the House.
Wetangula also hinted at probable repercussions for the person who recorded the two MPs in a fight.
“The recording of the video of the altercation is claimed to have been done by a sitting member of the house,” Wetang’ula warned.
“Should the claims be ascertained, it should also attract sanctions under the Parliament Powers and Privileges Act Cap 6.”

I feel compelled to address the regrettable incident that occurred within the corridor of Parliament, involving myself and Nominated MP Hon. Ummul Kheir. What transpired was undeniably beneath the dignity of the institution…

After the event went viral, Nominated MP Harun resorted to social media on Tuesday evening, April 8, accusing her colleague of initiating the attack on her.
“My colleague from the EALA, who has expressed longstanding differences with my work, acted in a manner that I find unacceptable,” she wrote on Facebook, adding that she regretted how things unfolded.
“She came to Parliament to do nothing but attack me, an incident that blindsided me and left me questioning what faulted the ambush.”
Iman, for her part, expressed sadness, saying the episode went “beyond the dignity of the House and the trust of the Kenyan people.”
