Drama As Kilifi CEC Is Forcibly Removed After Dismissal

Drama ensued in Kilifi County’s Deputy Governor’s office after officials forced County Secretary Martin Mwaro to leave.

The County Secretary was barred from entering the office after Governor Gideon Mung’aro sacked him on April 3.

In a video uploaded online, tensions erupted between county officials in the office and the former county secretary’s security team, who attempted to shield him from the irate staff.

The previous county secretary was publically chastised by county officials and forced to leave the office.

One of Mwaro’s security officers, who had pulled a gun, nearly exchanged blows with the authorities, who were determined to prevent Mwaro from entering the office.

“Get out of here, get out of here,” the angry officials shouted at Mwaro as they forcefully pushed him out of the gate.

Mwaro was taken out of the gate and into his car, but county officials followed him outside and cautioned him not to return.

Police officers present at the scene shut the gate and directed one of Mwaro’s employees to wait outside while he made several phone calls.

Armed with a court injunction, Mwaro claimed that he had a right to the office because Lady Justice Mbaru Monica had banned the county from nominating anyone to the position.

The judge ordered that the position not be filled or advertised until the lawsuit was heard on May 5.

“Take notice that any disobedience or non-observance of the order may result in penal consequences for anyone disobeying it,” the ruling read in part.

Despite the judge’s decision, the Kilifi County governor named Catherine Kenga, the incumbent County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Public Works, Roads, and Transport, as Acting County Secretary and Head of Public Service for a six-month term.

Mwaro’s security and personnel stated that county officials had obstructed all attempts to enter the office, including changing the locks on the doors.

Governor Mung’aro terminated Mwaro’s contract, claiming that it was done to enhance good governance, integrity, and accountability in the county government.
