‘No Harm Having Rigathi Gachagua As A Friend!’ – UDA’s Nyali MP
Nyali MP Mohammed Ali, also known as Jicho Pevu, has stated that he is free to interact with anyone, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
He made the statements on Monday, just as he hinted at leaving the UDA party, citing disagreements with some of its leaders.
The MP said there were intentions to prevent him from running on the party’s ticket in the 2027 general election.
Ali claimed he was being targeted by UDA authorities, who believed he had close ties to former DP Gachagua.
“In the texts, they are calling me that guy for Wamunyoro, that’s me. There is no harm in having a friend. Rigathi Gachagua was part and parcel of our team. He campaigned for UDA,” he said.
“He was our Deputy President. He has been impeached; he is out there continuing with his politics.”
He added: “There is no one who is going to stop me from talking to him and having a cup of tea with him.”

His comments came just days after he stated that he and his political team will not run in the grassroots elections, citing a lack of inclusivity in the process.
He expressed concern about the marginalization of individuals who helped the party grow to its current status.
“UDA, like any other political party, belongs to the people, not any single individual, regardless of their position,” he stated.

This is not the first time the MP has suggested collaborating with Gachagua.
In October 2024, the politician stated that he was one of the MPs who declined to sign the impeachment motion against the former DP.
“I have carefully read the charges in the impeachment motion against the Deputy President,” he said.
“In good faith, I do not support this cause of action and find it ill-intentioned, seeking to demonise a public servant who has contributed immensely to this great country.”
