ANOTHER CULT? TWO Bodies Found, 57 Rescued From Church In Migori

Two persons were found dead, while 57 others were rescued by authorities from the St Joseph Mission of Africa Church in Migori County’s Kochola Village.

According to a report from Migori County’s Kamagambo Police Station, on Sunday, April 20, the Rongo sub-county security and intelligence committee discovered one deceased body on the floor of a prayer chamber at the church.

According to the authorities, the victim was discovered wrapped in a white robe and a gray sheet, with injuries on the face and froth seeping from the mouth.

Another body was discovered later in the day on the church grounds.

According to the police, the two remains were sent to Rosewood Mortuary for postmortem.

“The scene was processed, and necessary action was taken. The body was removed to Rosewood Mortuary pending postmortem,” the report stated.

Following a thorough search of the church grounds, the police rescued 57 people ranging in age from 5 to 77 years old, whom they described as fragile and sickly.

According to authorities, after being transported to Rongo Sub-County Hospital for medical assistance, the suspects refused to be examined and began singing religious songs.

The individuals were then evacuated from the hospital, amid concerns from the physicians, and moved to the Kamagambo Police Station.

“When they persisted, the medical officers advised that the group should be removed from the hospital since they were disturbing the other patients at the facility. They were taken to the station to await further directives,” it stated.

This episode is akin to the Shakahola catastrophe of 2023, which started with the finding of starved and neglected children.

It later progressed to the discovery of shallow graves and the recovery of survivors.

On Friday, April 11, the Court of Appeal in Malindi approved the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) decision to proceed with 191 charges against preacher Paul Mackenzie and 30 other accused persons in connection with happenings in the Shakahola.
