‘You Are The Last Line Of Defence!’ – Uhuru Kenyatta Tells African Youths
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has given a passionate challenge to Africa’s youth, encouraging them to stand as the guardians of a self-sufficient and united continent.
Kenyatta, speaking at the second annual Guild Leaders’ Summit at Makerere University, exhorted young leaders to see themselves as the final protectors of Africa’s destiny.
“You are the last line of defence in the battle to rescue the heart and soul of Africa,” he declared, capturing the spirit of urgency and empowerment that echoed throughout the summit.
Citing wealthy nations’ inward drive, Kenyatta termed the current situation as Africa’s new “independence era,” in which the continent must establish its own course.
Addressing the region’s economic issues, Kenyatta highlighted intra-African trade, which accounts for less than 2.5% of world business.
You Are the Last Line of Defence in Reshaping the Continent’s Future, asserts Kenyatta at the Guild Leaders’ Summit 2025.

“No one is coming to save us,” he told the crowd of university guild leaders and student delegates.
“As the world turns inward, the places to seek refuge are disappearing. You are the freedom fighters of this generation.”
Kenyatta emphasized the importance of universities, calling them “incubators of change,” and reminding students that they are “trustees of tomorrow’s Africa.”
