Finland President Set To Visit Kenya Between May 12-24
The Kawangware district in Nairobi, which is not the typical lush suburb expected to be visited by a state leader, has been identified as one of the locations Finland President Alexander Stubb will visit.
President Stubb and First Lady Suzanne Innes-Stubb will undertake a State Visit to Kenya from May 12 to 14, marking the country’s first visit by a Finnish president.

Kenya and Finland have diplomatic links dating back to Kenya’s independence in 1963, however, no Finnish President has ever visited Kenya.
Ministerial visits and development cooperation have been the primary means of engagement between the two countries, as opposed to high-level state visits.
However, President Stubb is about to make history when he visits Kenya to commemorate the two countries’ 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations.
“President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb and his spouse Suzanne Innes-Stubb will pay a state visit to the Republic of Kenya,” a statement by the Office of the President of Finland read in part.
“The visit will take place on 12–14 May 2025 to celebrate 60 years of diplomatic relations between Finland and Kenya.”
The highly anticipated visit will begin in Nairobi on Monday, May 12, with President Stubb meeting President William Ruto.
The two leaders will address Finland-Kenya bilateral relations, global concerns and their influence on Africa and Europe, and multilateral collaboration.
The talks will be followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at Uhuru Gardens, after which President Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto will entertain the two at a state banquet on Monday evening.
President Stubb will then visit the University of Nairobi, where he will offer a speech on geopolitics and the evolution of the multilateral order, before heading to the EU-Kenya Business Forum.

“The President will also visit the residential area of Kawangware, where he will learn about a program funded by the EU and Finnfund to enhance digital connectivity,” the statement continued.
The President will also meet with the Director-General of the UN Office in Nairobi (UNON), as well as the Executive Directors of UNEP and UN-Habitat.
They will discuss the UN’s future, support for the multilateral system, and the UN Office in Nairobi’s role.
The visit is aimed at cementing the already thriving relationship between Kenya and Finland.
