Gachagua Allied MP Hunted By Police, Says Summon Enough Not ‘Unnecessary’ arrest
Manyatta Member of Parliament John Gitonga Mukunji has alleged that armed police officers had invaded his house on the morning of Sunday, September 13.
Speaking during a church service in Manyatta Constituency, Embu County, he said police officers had made several attempts to arrest him, but he managed to evade them.
According to the lawmaker, he caught wind of presence of authorities and had to flee on a motorcycle.
“Today has been a challenging day for me. I am waiting for them to come and arrest me here at the house of God, “ stated Mukunji.
“I had made the decision that, even if they try to invade my house, I will sneak using a boda boda until I come here.”
“They had done everything to see to it that I do not make it here, that I am stuck in that house.”
Mukunji, who is an ally of DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua, has been linked by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to the violent clashes that broke out during a rally in Embu County on Saturday.
The chaos left several people feared dead and vehicles torched.
His statement comes barely hours after Gachagua also hinted at the alleged invasion of the legislator’s home by armed officers.
The DCP Party leader stataed that hundreds of officers had been deployed with ‘clear instructions’ to arrest Mukunji, accusing Kindiki and Embu Governor Cecil Mbarire of harassment and intimidation.
“The harassment of Hon. Gitonga Mukunji by Kithure Kindiki and Cecilly Mbarire is unacceptable,” Gachagua stated.

“Hundreds of policemen are surrounding his Embu home with orders to arrest him for the violent clashes between citizens and police yesterday in Embu.”
Gachagua, through his social media, also attached WhatsApp screenshots of alleged communication between the MP and DP Kindiki, showing Kindiki accusing Mukunji of plotting the violence.
“My brother, I have always respected you and your decision not to work with us,” the screenshot, purported to be from the Deputy President, stated in part.
“However, you have decided to fight me directly, but there is no problem; I am ready.”
Meanwhile, the National Police Service (NPS) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have confirmed that two people have already been arrested in connection with the violence, with investigations ongoing.
Police have also launched a wider manhunt to track down more suspects.
