Sudi Warns Gachagua Against 2007 PEV Remarks

Oscar Sudi, a Kapseret Member of Parliament, has lambasted former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for his dubious statements about the 2007/2008 unrest.

Sudi warned Gachagua not to incite Kenyans by making ‘careless’ and ‘reckless’ comments about the post-election upheaval in a brief video uploaded by the MP on Saturday morning.

According to Sudi, while the law guarantees freedom of expression to all Kenyans, including Gachagua, it should not be misused.

He admonished Gachagua against using his privilege to engage in unethical debate, particularly one about a bitter historical incident.

While criticizing the former DP, the Kapseret legislator argued that Gachagua’s reckless and derogatory remarks on such a sensitive issue merited his Senate impeachment last year.

“Please, do not talk about 2007/2008, it seems you do not know what you are saying. Our people suffered what has never been witnessed,” Sudi warned.

“Ask for votes, criticise all government officials, but do not engage in 2007/2008 conversation. You are becoming too reckless, you are not a leader. That is why you are a half-term DP,” he added.

Sudi went on to encourage Gachagua to be cautious about his words, saying that the 2007 post-election turmoil had far-reaching effects for many Kenyans who have yet to recover from the political turbulence.

The legislator’s statements come only hours after the former DP warned that President William Ruto’s administration’s attempts to rig the 2027 elections could destabilize the country.

Gachagua, speaking in an interview with Obinna TV on Friday, May 16, warned that post-election violence in 2027 would be worse than in 2007.

“With the mood in the country, if that IEBC tries to mess with the elections, there will be no country here, I want to tell you that 2007 will look like a Christmas party,” the former DP claimed.

He went on to add: “I want to tell those commissioners to be Kenyans and to be patriotic, and not to attempt to force William Ruto on the people of Kenya.

“It will not work. The people of Kenya will not accept it, people want change, and they are ready for change.”

During the interview, Gachagua also dismissed the idea that powerful government officials could influence the outcome of the elections.

He added that the youthful Kenyans would be on the lookout to prevent rigging.
