MP Nyoro Raises Alarm Over Agriculture Sector’s Budget Cut

Ndindi Nyoro, a Kiharu Member of Parliament, has threatened to utilize House processes to return decreased agricultural sector budget monies, including Ksh.1 billion taken from the Coffee Cherry Fund.

Speaking at Gatagua, where he unveiled coffee drying equipment, Nyoro accused the Treasury of undermining farmers, claiming that the cuts will expose them to costly credit facilities.

“Coffee Cherry Fund inafanyanga wakulima wanapata kukopa pesa ya chini so that they do not suffer with expensive debts,” he said.

“And every financial year we allocate money to help farmers repay loans of the previous years.”

He claims that other areas that faced substantial losses in the Budget Policy Statement include the fertiliser subsidy program, which was reduced by Ksh.7 billion.

“And because the process is still ongoing, we will make sure we return that money to where it should be so that isaidie wakulima wetu.”

During the event, which also commemorated the Society’s fifth anniversary, Gatagua Coffee Farmers Cooperative Society was renamed Gatagua Agro Marketing Farmers Cooperative Society.

The MP launched various facilities, including new dryers, a security system including a watch tower & CCTV system, and a new digital weighing system.
