Charlene Ruto Speaks After Release Of Book Author
Webster Ochora Elijah, the guy accused of publishing a book on Charlene Ruto without her permission, has been granted a cash bail of Ksh 50,000.
Ochora appeared in court and pled not guilty to identity theft allegations against Charlene, President William Ruto’s daughter.
The court designated June 17 as the date for the hearing.
Ochora was detained on June 2 after detectives claimed he wrote and released a book on Charlene called Beyond the Name: Charlene Ruto and the Youth Uprising, without her permission.
He was arrested and locked up at Muthaiga Police Station on charges of breaking the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) took his laptop as part of the ongoing evidence collection process.
The police have initiated an investigation into the individual who funded and supported the book’s authorship and publication.
Charlene claimed that she denounced Ochora to the DCI because he failed to obtain her permission before publishing the book.
Charlene, speaking to the press on June 3 at Wareng High School, urged the students not to pursue opportunities in the wrong way.
“He didn’t get my permission before writing that book. We have a culture in this country where we misuse people’s names and get away with it. It is not right, and that is not what I stand for,” Charlene said.

She stated that the problem was not with the book’s substance, but with how people treated one another in society.
“No one will write your book for you, so write it for yourself when you are ready. I just didn’t like that someone misused my name. It is about respecting each other and consulting,” she added.

He has authored books on notable figures such as former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and United States President Donald Trump and that the arrest was uncalled for.
