MP Wamuchomba Meets Gachagua After Fallout Speculation

After months of providing confusing political signals, Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has softened his stance toward former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

On Thursday, June 12, 2025, the vociferous MP met with Gachagua at the offices of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) in Nairobi.

She later accompanied Gachagua on a tour of the Githunguri Constituency and other areas of Kiambu County, indicating her willingness to collaborate with him ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking in Banana Town on Thursday, Wamuchomba urged her followers to vote against President William Ruto in 2027.

“For those who were saying that I have left this camp, now they can see for themselves, I am here calling for one term,” Wamuchomba told an electrified crowd in Githunguri town.

This was her first public appearance with Gachagua in over six months, given her previous criticism of his leadership style.

Wamuchomba’s absence from Gachagua’s recent political events aroused questions.

Her absence from his events, particularly after his impeachment, became more obvious.

She recently visited with former Interior Secretary Fred Matiang’i, prompting speculation that she was fleeing Gachagua’s camp.

In a recent interview with a local television station, Wamuchomba addressed rumors about joining Gachagua’s new party.

She answered cautiously, stressing that her political actions would be based on her ideals and vision for the country.

“He doesn’t have to necessarily agree with me, but if it’s a fact, it’s a fact. Rigathi needs to realise that he has the mountain with him—he doesn’t need to keep punching the same message,” she said.

“He must also dissociate himself from his campaigns with the mountain connotation because he has fought for the mountain enough,” she added.

In a separate interview with NTV on Monday, March 24, 2025, Wamuchomba stated that Gachagua must be “sensitive” and more friendly to various communities if he wants to be seen as a national leader.

“He needs to be seen as more accommodating to other communities,” she stated.

“The same energy he’s used to fight for the mountain should now be directed toward advocating for people who’ve been evicted from other areas and other forgotten communities in this country.”

He added: “If he truly wants to be a national leader, we need to see him fighting for all Kenyans.”
