Goons Block Kisumu-Kakamega Highway, Burn Tyres Ahead Of Opposition Rallies
On Thursday afternoon, a number of rowdy youths stopped sections of the Kisumu-Kakamega highway, causing temporary transportation disruptions.
This occurred before scheduled political rallies by a group of opposition figures touring the region.
In widely shared video footage, heavy clouds of smoke filled the air as tires burnt violently on the road.
Security officers were seen working to extinguish the fires with the help of some citizens, while others redirected traffic as vehicles piled up on the busy route.

Despite the disturbance, the opposition delegation, commanded by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, was able to approach the region.
The leaders are on a two-day tour of western Kenya, with rallies planned in Vihiga and Kakamega counties.
They made public appearances in Luanda and Mbale, Vihiga County, before visiting Malava, Mumias, and Kakamega.
The journey is part of what the organizers call a growing national push for the “liberation” of the country.

Gachagua was accompanied by Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, former Attorney General Justin Muturi, and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

The Western Kenya visit comes just days after a massive political gathering in Narok County on June 30.
While addressing citizens in Kakamega, the leaders stated that some politicians were attempting to disrupt their gatherings.
They maintained that every Kenyan has a constitutional right to be heard regardless of political affiliation.
“We have seen a leader elected by Kenyans attempting to stop us from entering this region. How can he dictate who visits this area?” said Matiang’i.
