‘Keep Me Out Of Your Angry Politics!’ – Wetangula Hits Back At Kalonzo Over ‘Goons’ Remarks

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has reacted to charges by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka that he sponsored goons who attacked opposition leaders’ convoys during a tour to the Western region.

Wetangula denied the charges in a message on his X page, calling Kalonzo to quit his ‘misplaced rage and projected venom.’

While ostensibly giving an alibi to back up his claims, Wetangula indicated that he was in Mombasa and no longer involved in constituency politics, repeating that he had last been a constituency MP in 2013.

“Kalonzo Musyoka, my brother, as you have correctly addressed me, stop your misplaced anger and transferred malice. I am in Mombasa. Keep out of your angry politics,” Wetangula stated.

“In case your memory fails you, I was last a constituency MP in 2013!” the Speaker further asserted.

Chaos broke out on Friday, July 4, when goons reportedly attacked the opposition leaders’ vehicles in Bungoma County shortly after their demonstration.

A convoy carrying prominent opposition leaders, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i, and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, was ambushed in Chwele town.

Hundreds of people pelted stones at the vehicles of opposition leaders, according to videos circulated widely on social media. Others, armed with clubs, chased the leaders away.

Former nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba claimed that some of the goons pulled out knives, while others were helped by police to disperse the crowd.

In the midst of the commotion, Kalonzo resorted to social media and accused Wetangula of funding the goons.

Even yet, the Wiper leader insisted that the opposition will not be deterred in their efforts to make President William Ruto a one-term president.

“Speaker Wetangula’s state-sponsored goons throwing stones and firing bullets under the protection of Riot Police did not deter our March to Kitale,” Kalonzo stated.

“Mr Speaker, hear the people of Chwele, Western and Kenya clearly: The United Opposition won’t be intimidated by your WanTam-sanctioned stone-throwing goons. Not now, not today, not ever,” he added.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has already faced many attacks from claimed thugs.

In incidents where he was attacked, Gachagua frequently depicted them as assassination attempts, accusing Ruto of planning them.

The leaders are now in the Western area on a multi-county opposition trip to raise support and address recent political developments.

This includes the Generation Z protests and the alleged abuse of state power.
