Raila Hits Back At Gachagua, Calls For Fresh Mindset To Kenya’s Problems

Raila Odinga, the head of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), has criticised Rigathi Gachagua, alleging that the former Deputy President is not a better candidate for the presidency.

Speaking at a memorial service in Bomet on Saturday afternoon, Odinga stated that even if Gachagua were elected president, he would not bring about significant change in the country.

He disclosed that Gachagua’s previous performance as the country’s second Deputy President lacked proof of proper leadership.

Raila contended that making him Ruto’s replacement would not benefit the country.

“Even if you make Rigathi Gachagua the next president, there is no big difference he will bring to this country. We need to do things afresh,” Raila commented.

Odinga emphasized in his speech that the nation’s current difficulties could not be handled by a single person and that finding a long-term solution required the participation of all Kenyans.

He also expressed his sympathy for the youth, but warned against gangsters infiltrating youth protests with the intent of destroying the country and looting property.

Odinga also warned Kenyans against being manipulated by politicians to further their objectives.

According to Raila, chanting ‘Ruto Must Go’ was not the solution to the country’s problems.

“We know that our Constitution has some minor gaps that need to be addressed,” the former Prime Minister reiterated.

“That is the reason I told Kenyans that now is the right time for us to hold a national conversation. We should talk so that we can know where the problem is.

“Protests and chants of ‘Ruto Must Go’ will not solve the problems. Even if Ruto leaves office, it will not solve the challenges,” he added.

Raila’s blistering attack on the former DP came just hours after Gachagua rejected Odinga’s plea for a national dialogue to address the country’s woes.

Gachagua, who was speaking to Kenyans living in the United States, claimed that the ODM party leader has previously engaged in similar discussions without delivering tangible results.

According to Gachagua, the former Prime Minister is irrelevant in today’s political discourse, and he describes Odinga as an ‘opportunistic’ man who always seeks to get into every administration.

“Raila is irrelevant in the political discourse because every election cycle, he loses and finds his way into government. He wants to be in government but doesn’t want responsibility,” Gachagua revealed.
