This episode contributes to a disturbing trend of human-wildlife conflict in Kenya. Several other serious occurrences have resulted in Kenyan deaths.
On April 20, KWS reported the unfortunate death of a 14-year-old girl who was killed by a lion in Nairobi National Park.
According to authorities, the girl was fatally assaulted and mauled in the Savannah area near Nairobi National Park.

It was alleged that the lion was from the park and had met the girl after entering a home area within the Savannah Ranch.
The witness stated that the attack occurred on Saturday, about 7 p.m., when she raised the alarm, resulting in a quick reaction from KWS rangers and rescue crews.
The team arrived at the location and followed a bloodstain, which took them to the Mbagathi River, where they discovered the girl’s body with injuries to the lower back.
In a separate incident last month, a man was trampled to death by a herd of elephants that invaded his farm in Kitui.
