‘Just Resign!’ – Sifuna, Amisi Told After Threats On ODM-Ruto Pact
Elders in Trans Nzoia County have encouraged Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and Saboti Member of Parliament Caleb Amisi to resign from their respective positions.
This comes days after they threatened to leave the Orange Democratic Party (ODM).
The two leaders had vowed to leave the party if Raila Odinga, the ODM party leader, supported President William Ruto in the 2027 general elections.
In a press briefing on Tuesday, August 5, the elders argued that the two parliamentarians’ words were inciteful and portrayed them as unsuited for party membership or any other leadership role.
According to the elders, the two leaders’ resignations would open the way for a by-election in which they would be able to demonstrate their ability to prosper in the political ecosystem without ODM’s assistance.

“We condemn their statement that they will leave the party if Raila Odinga backs President William Ruto in 2027,” an elder stated.
“We are here to tell them to resign from ODM and come back and look for votes afresh, because the statement they issued was inciteful.”
“The two leaders should resign today so that we may know if they are fit enough to lead the country without the support of Raila,” another elder said.
The elders have also stated that they will be at the forefront of supporting the collaboration between Raila and President Ruto, who were previously bitter adversaries.
The elders’ statement came only days after Sifuna, who also serves as ODM Secretary General, stated that he is dedicated to the organization’s beliefs.
However, he stresses that he would not participate in any pact that benefits the ruling party beyond 2027.
Furthermore, Sifuna, who addressed a public meeting on Sunday, August 3, denied criticism from some party followers who are clamoring for his resignation.
The Senator insisted that he will only resign if ODM forms a political alliance with UDA.
“I will read all the updates and releases by the party, except one. The day they say ODM has agreed to join hands and support UDA in the 2027 elections—that I will not read,” Sifuna said.
The Saboti lawmaker, who spoke on Tuesday, July 29, stated that if the party continues to collaborate with the Kenya Kwanza administration, he may desert it in the next general election.

Amisi stated that he will seek a ticket with another party in the upcoming general election.
Amisi claimed that the party’s ideological stance was being eroded as a result of the emerging political realignment.
“I am a member of ODM I was elected on an ODM ticket for five years,” Amisi said.
“Until then, if ODM continues collaborating with William Ruto, then I will not seek re-election with that party.”
