A police officer was allegedly shot and killed by a colleague while on duty at a government fertilizer storage in Luanda, Vihiga County.

The slain officer, Nicholas Samoei, died from a fatal gunshot wound to the head in the incident that stunned the town.

The catastrophe occurred at the Esirabe fertilizer depot, where the two cops were guarding the plant.

According to police, the two officers were in the middle of their shift when the incident occurred, and the circumstances are still being investigated.

The culprit fled the scene right after the event.

Luanda Sub-County Police Commander Richard Siele said that a multi-agency manhunt has been initiated to locate and apprehend the colleague, who is now thought to be armed and dangerous.

Commander Siele, who talked to the media from the crime scene, said the police are currently investigating the motive for the shooting.

Initially, the suspect claimed Samoei shot himself. However, they later turned off their phones and vanished, raising suspicions.

Residents reported hearing gunshots late at night and found Samoei with a gunshot wound to the head.

After investigating, investigators discovered two firearms, one belonging to Samoei and the other to the suspect.

Based on the facts, the police believed that Samoei was slain rather than having committed suicide. Police now assume that the officer on the run is the main suspect.

“The residents told us that around 8pm or 9pm, they didn’t know what had happened or where,” the commander said.

“At around 10 p.m. today, they heard different gunshots, and when they tried to look, the officer who had passed away had been shot in the head.”

He added, ” He was shot here on the face, and it came out the back of his head, and he was sleeping.”

He added that he discovered two firearms at the scene, and that after further inquiry, they discovered that the police officer did not commit suicide, as previously alleged.

“We found both guns: that of the one who had made the call and that of the deceased,” he added.

“As the investigation continued, it became clear that the officer did not kill himself but was killed, and we suspect the one who was with him and who made the call, who is his colleague.”

The commandant stated that the body has been transferred to the mortuary at Vihiga County Referral Hospital.

The police are asking the public for information that will assist them in finding the missing officer.
