EXPLAINER: Why TikTok Removed More Than 500K Videos In Kenya

TikTok removed over half a million videos from its Kenyan user base between April and June 2025 as part of its ongoing efforts to promote a safe and positive digital environment.

According to the company’s Q2 2025 Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, 592,037 videos were removed in Kenya for violating the platform’s Community Guidelines.

TikTok claims that its proactive moderation mechanisms allowed for the rapid detection and removal of dangerous content, with 92.9% of videos deleted before they were viewed and 96.3% removed within 24 hours of uploading.

Globally, the platform eliminated about 189 million videos within the same period, accounting for only 0.7% of all TikTok content.

Of these, 99.1 percent were spotted proactively using automated techniques, and 94.4 percent were eliminated within 24 hours.

TikTok’s AI-driven moderation algorithms were responsible for removing 163.9 million videos, demonstrating the platform’s significant technological expenditures in content safety.

The business also announced the termination of 76,991,660 bogus accounts and an additional 25,904,708 accounts believed to belong to users under the age of 13.

TikTok asserted that integrating automatic moderation technology with thousands of trust and safety professionals allows for speedier and more consistent enforcement of its principles.

TikTok has revealed data for the first time on its LIVE monetisation enforcement efforts, which guarantee that creators who make money from live streaming follow the platform’s standards.

In the second quarter of 2025, the platform took action against 2,321,813 LIVE sessions and 1,040,356 LIVE creators for breaking LIVE monetisation restrictions.

These efforts included issuing warnings and demonetization, with the business emphasizing that warnings serve as instructional opportunities for authors to improve their work.

TikTok has also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and user participation in ensuring platform integrity.
