Goons Raid MP’s Hotel for Ward MCA By-Election

Goons vandalised Kabuchai MP Majimbo Kalasinga’s hotel on Monday, stealing goods worth millions and causing damage to the rest.

The hotel’s glass windows and doors, as well as its game tables and chairs, were entirely destroyed, according to footage and photographs uploaded online.

According to reports, this incursion was the result of the MP’s support for Eric Wekesa, a candidate for the Kabuchai-Chwele ward MCA seat in the impending by-elections.

Following the pillage, the MP condemned the raid, claiming that his stance should not be used to justify incursions into his own companies.

He advocated for peace in memory of the late MCA James Barasa, who he claimed was not a violent man.

“I highly condemn the violence that has been going on in Kabuchai/Chwele Ward. How is an MCA by-election related to my own personal property?” MP Kalasinga stated.

“Dear residents, let’s maintain peaceful campaigns and uphold dignity. The late Hon. James Barasa was never violent. I truly rebuke this kind of behaviour.”

Speaking from South Africa, he stated that the raid would only increase his determination to support Wekesa in the impending by-elections.

Following the raid, hotel staff described how the incident transpired, stating that no one was seriously injured at the hotel, with the exception of a young boy who encountered the goons on his way home.

They reported that the thugs had been allowed to enter the establishment since there were no police officers in the area, including the Officer Commanding Station (OCS).

The security men were reportedly supervising the ongoing KCSE exam.

“They went to the kitchen and unplugged everything, carried the food, broke the windows and stole goods, including TVs and chairs, all worth over Ksh1.8 million,” one of the employees narrated.

“They assaulted our employees and then left. Another group joined them after. I want to urge our Chwele police officers to conduct investigations into the matter,” he added.

Wekesa will face Ford Kenya’s Vincent Maunda in the upcoming November 27 by-elections.

The ward is among the 16 that will be voting for a new MCA. Baringo residents will also be voting for a new Senator, and six constituencies, including Malava, Kasipul and Mbeere North, will vote for MPs.
