Governor Faces Another Impeachment Over Misconduct Allegations
Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo is facing impeachment after an ouster resolution was tabled in the County Assembly on Monday.
Nyamira MCAs filed the move against Governor Nyaribo, alleging egregious misconduct, misuse of office, and improper appointments.
This is another attempt to remove him amid deepening divides in the County Assembly.
Julius Kimwomi Matwere, MCA for Bonyamatuta Ward, filed the application, accusing the governor of violating the Constitution and other laws, as well as abusing his power.
“I wish to give notice of motion for the removal of Honourable Nyaribo, the governor of Nyamira County, from office by way of impeachment on the following grounds: number one, gross violation of the Constitution of Kenya and other laws, and two, abuse of office,” Matwere stated.

The impeachment motion comes as Governor Nyaribo confronts a major political crisis, and it is his third attempt at removal in a special County Assembly session.
Governor Nyaribo narrowly avoided impeachment in September of last year with a single vote. During the hearing, 34 MCAs participated, with 22 voting in favor of his dismissal, 12 voting against, and none abstaining.
A year earlier, in September 2023, he evaded impeachment after 18 MCAs opposed the motion. Sixteen members voted for his dismissal, falling short of the two-thirds majority required for the process to be completed.
At the same time, the county’s top executive is still being investigated by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on suspicions of major corruption and abuse of office, putting his position in jeopardy.
Last month, the EACC inspected Nyaribo’s homes and offices in connection with an alleged corruption scam involving a Ksh382 million irregular tender.
The October 29 morning operation also targeted many senior county officials accused of being involved in the plan.
The searches were carried out concurrently in Nyamira, Kisii, and Nairobi counties, focusing on the residences and offices of county officials identified as individuals of interest in the case.
Meanwhile, the Speaker adjourned the House until Tuesday, November 18, this year, at 9:30 a.m., when members will reassemble to debate the resolution.
