ATPU Detectives Nab Terror Suspect In Eastleigh Operation

A suspect was apprehended in Eastleigh, Nairobi, following an intelligence-based operation headed by detectives from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU).

The suspect was found at a residence, where officers conducted a coordinated raid, culminating in the arrest.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), she is suspected of soliciting and assisting a terrorist organization.

“Detectives from the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) have arrested a woman suspected of soliciting and providing support to a terrorist group,” the agency said in a statement.

“Her arrest follows an intelligence-led operation that led detectives to her residence along Major Muriithi Street in Eastleigh.”

Authorities discovered a passport and a mobile phone at the location, which are currently being analyzed by forensic specialists for information about her purported activities.

The suspect is currently in jail and being processed ahead of his arraignment.

The DCI stated that the operation underscores Kenya’s continued efforts to combat terrorism and extremism through proactive security measures.

“The swift action taken in Eastleigh is part of broader counter-terrorism strategies that rely on intelligence sharing, inter-agency coordination, and collaboration with the public,” the DCI added.

In recent years, the government has increased monitoring and surveillance in high-risk locations, leading to multiple operations against suspected terrorist networks.

The DCI has urged members of the public to continue assisting law enforcement by giving timely information about suspicious activity. Officials highlight the importance of community collaboration in combating extremism and potential attacks.

Under the National Police Service Act of 2011, the DCI is in charge of detecting, preventing, and investigating crime.

Its functions include gathering criminal intelligence, investigating serious crimes such as terrorism, homicide, cybercrime, and trafficking, conducting forensic analysis, and executing directives from the Director of Public Prosecutions in accordance with constitutional processes.
