KASIPUL: Peter Kaluma Attacked, Phones Stolen At A Polling Station
Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma was attacked by a mob in Kasipul during the recent by-elections.
According to accounts, the lawmaker was attacked at the Agoro Sale polling station while serving as an observer for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party.
According to the congressman, his security, who was also attacked and injured, lost his firearm in the confusion.
Images uploaded online showed the MP encircled by an armed mob, which accosted and attacked him, injuring him.

Following the event, medical professionals at the voting station raced to provide first treatment to Kaluma, who was bleeding from the head.
Police personnel at the polling site also helped to control the situation.

Following the event, Kaluma claimed that the goons were linked to Phillip Aroko, an independent candidate running for the Kasipul MP seat.
The legislator claimed that such attacks are intended to discourage people from voting in the by-elections.

“The way to end is not fighting back, we are very small people, we would have fought them back. Don’t fight them because that is what they want. They don’t want people to come to vote,” Kaluma said.
“I want to tell people to come out and vote. People like these want to scare people from voting, but please come out and vote,” he added.
