ODM’s Oburu Oginga Returns After a Brief Break in Dubai

Oburu Oginga, a Siaya Senator and leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), has returned to Kenya after a brief stay in Dubai.

According to Nyakach MP Joshua Aduma Owuor, Oburu arrived at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Thursday and was welcomed by ODM members.

They then went to Lee Funeral Home to see his younger sister, Beryl Achieng’ Odinga, who had died.

Oburu, 82, took the brief leave after a period of tremendous political and familial duties, including the death of his younger brother, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

His son, Jaoko Oburu Odinga, stated that the Dubai vacation was intended to let the senior politician rest and recharge.

“There have been speculations about the health of Oburu Oginga. We have had functions to mourn Baba (Raila), there was also ODM at 20,” he stated.

“The party leader has not had time to rest and even mourn his own brother. Last week he took his break and went to Dubai. He will be back.”

Oburu’s sabbatical occurred just weeks after assuming leadership of the ODM following Raila Odinga’s death.

In that short period of time, he oversaw funeral arrangements, planned the party’s 20th anniversary festivities, and took part in electoral campaigns, notably the Kasipul byelection.

His absence generated widespread anxiety and suspicion about his health, with many noting his limited public appearances throughout that time.

However, the family assuaged anxieties by emphasizing that the break was solely for rest.
