NYERI: Prison Warders Shoot, Kill Suspected Intruders
Prison guards at Kingongo Prison in Nyeri fatally shot a man who they said had intruded onto the property and attempted to break into a house.
According to officials, the man was shot in the thigh on Thursday, November 27, at dawn and carried to the hospital, where he died.
According to authorities, the body has been taken to the mortuary for identification and postmortem testing.
Police said the individual was suspected of trying a break-in, but investigations are still ongoing to determine the exact circumstances of the event.
In a separate matter, a body that had been wrongly identified and buried at a home in Masaba, Kisii County, was exhumed after the woman believed to have died in a road accident resurfaced.
Officials got a court order for the exhumation after it was discovered that the bones interred in February were not those of the woman previously claimed to have perished in a collision.
According to officials, the family received the incorrect body from a local mortuary owing to a mix-up.
The woman returned nine months later to see her parents in Goti Nyango hamlet, stunning villagers and family members who had assumed she had died.
