NAIROBI: Geoffrey Mosiria Orders Removal Of Coffin Makers From Hospital Gates
Geoffrey Mosiria, the Nairobi County Chief Officer in charge of the Citizen Engagement and Customer Service Department, has advocated removing coffin shops from hospital entrances and areas directly beside them.
The Chief Officer stated this in a statement distributed on social media on December 2, 2025, alongside a video of his interaction with coffin salesmen.
“My humble request, however, is this: let us keep coffin shops away from the main entrances of hospitals or directly opposite them,” the Chief County Officer said.
Mosiria claims that the appearance of coffins near the hospital may induce panic among patients in critical condition.

“Patients who are in critical condition may see them and immediately panic or lose hope of recovering,” Mosiria claimed.
The Chief Officer advocated for a balance between the dignity of the coffin industry and the emotional well-being of the sick.
Mosiria, on the other hand, praised Kenyan coffin makers, stating they are carrying out God’s will with dignity, love, and genuine regard for the deceased.
“These men and women are doing God’s work with dignity, love, and deep respect for the departed. Many people judge them unfairly, yet to me they are God-sent,” Mosiria wrote.

Mosiria also praised the coffin merchants for journeying with bereaved families during the mourning time.
“They walk with families during their most painful moments, and for that, they deserve our appreciation,” Mosiria said.
Kenya’s coffin industry is vibrant and developing, with strong ties to the larger funeral services sector.
It is distinguished by a combination of specialist funeral homes and various small to medium-sized coffin makers around the country.
