ODM Politician Dies After Brief Illness – Party Announces

Georgina Margaret Oketch died unexpectedly, prompting the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to issue a condolonce statement.

On Saturday, December 6, ODM confirmed Margaret Oketch’s death, citing a brief illness.

Margaret Oketch was a member of the ODM Disability League, which enables people with disabilities to gain independence by exercising their right to choose and participate fully in Kenyan governance structures.

According to ODM, she was also a nominated Member of the County Assembly (MCA) for Siaya.

“We mourn the passing on of Hon. Georgina Margaret Oketch, a member of the ODM Disability League and a former nominated MCA in the Siaya County Assembly after a short illness,” ODM’s statement read in part.

The Orange Democratic Movement also praised the late lawmaker as a loyal member whose contributions to the party would be deeply missed.

“We have lost a dedicated member of the party whose immense contribution will be missed. May she RIP,” ODM’s eulogised.

ODM did not immediately explain the funeral arrangements for Georgina Margaret Oketch.

Earlier, the National Assembly acknowledged the death of nominated Member of Parliament Denar Joseph Hamisi, who died on Saturday morning, December 6, 2025, around 7:00 a.m.

In a formal communication to the House on Saturday, December 6, 2025, Speaker Moses Wetang’ula acknowledged the late MP’s passing as a devastating loss for Parliament and the country.

“It is with profound sorrow that I hereby notify the House and the entire parliamentary fraternity of the untimely demise of Nominated Member, the late Hon. Denar Joseph Hamisi, MP, who passed on today, Saturday, December 6, 2025, at about 7:00 am,” Wetangula stated.
