The Ministry of Interior has issued strict ground restrictions ahead of the 62nd Jamhuri Day celebrations, which will take place on Friday, December 12, at the Nyayo Stadium.

While addressing Kenyans on the overall preparations for the national event, Nairobi Regional Commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo encouraged them to take the required safeguards.

As part of the preparations, Kitiyo cautioned the public not to use high-end phones or expose their precious wristwatches in crowded settings, including the stadium.

“Individuals should take necessary precautions; they should not use their expensive phones or expose their expensive watches and jewellery in the grounded areas,” Kitiyo said.

While Kenyans were allowed to bring water, snacks, and other food items to the event, the commissioner advised the people not to bring alcohol.

According to Kitiyo, the government is anticipated to send appropriate security personnel, including police officers and National Youth Service (NYS) officers, to maintain order.

He emphasized that the NYS will be in charge of directing visitors to convenient seating zones to avoid confusion and unnecessary crowds within the stadium.

“Everyone should be seated by 7 am, but the gates will be opened by 5 am. There will be adequate parking for VIPs, while parking for other vehicles will be around the stadium,” the police boss reiterated.

Kitiyo further disclosed that several high-profile dignitaries, including invited Heads of State, will attend the ceremony, and Kenyans were advised to maintain discipline.

The venue marked a shift from the early communication that the annual celebrations would take place at the newly built Talanta Sports Stadium, which is still under construction.

This year’s Jamhuri Day theme is focused on tourism and wildlife, highlighting the sector’s role in enhancing the country’s economy.
