CJ Koome Make 100 Fresh Resident Magistrate Appointments
The Judiciary Service Commission has selected 100 resident magistrates to serve in Magistrates’ Courts nationwide.
The selections were announced on Thursday evening, December 11, 2025, with the commission noting that they will improve the judiciary’s service delivery.
The new magistrates will increase the judiciary’s capacity, which now stands at 560 magistrates serving in 143 courts around the country.
According to the Judiciary, the new appointees will help ensure that the third branch of government delivers justice in an effective, efficient, and accessible manner.

According to the JSC, the appointments represent a significant step toward reducing case backlogs, which are a major problem for the judiciary.
The newly appointed magistrates are anticipated to help the judiciary increase access to justice, particularly in marginalized communities.
The selection of magistrates will also increase specialisation in important areas like Children’s Courts and Small Claims Courts.
This is also part of the commission’s overall plan to guarantee that Kenyans receive justice on time and to strengthen public trust in the rule of law.
