DCI Ordered To Investigate Singer Betty Bayo’s Death
The case of gospel singer Betty Bayo’s death has taken a new turn as the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) launched an investigation.
On Tuesday, the DPP, through Deputy Director Jacinta Nyamosi, directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to initiate an investigation and present its findings within seven days.
The current decision follows an official request made by the late singer’s mother, Joyce Wairimu, who said there were certain unsolved concerns about her death.

Wairimu had initially written to the DPP to request an inquest into her daughter’s death.
In the letter, Bayo’s family claimed that the singer showed no signs of illness in the days leading up to her death.
Betty Bayo’s family also claimed that they were denied access to her autopsy report, despite the fact that the late singer was said to have no underlying health issues.
Betty Bayo, whose true name was Beatrice Wairimu Mbugua, died on Monday, November 10, following a battle with cancer.
However, there have been conflicting reports on her leukaemia diagnosis, with her family reporting that her illness worsened at the beginning of November and deteriorated rapidly, in what is now being termed as suspicious.
Aside from being denied an autopsy report, Bayo’s family is also critical of her burial, which her mother alleges was done in haste to conceal key information about the circumstances surrounding her death.
The DPP now believes a probe will reveal the exact circumstances surrounding the ’11th Hour’ hitmaker’s death.

In August 2025, Bayo was admitted to the hospital and posted an image of herself wearing an oxygen mask on social media, indicating that her health had deteriorated.
At the time, she revealed that the cold weather had taken its toll on her, but she did not go into detail about her cancer battle.
A week before she died, there were concerns that her well-being was not taken with enough urgency after reports emerged that a hospital refused to admit her until a Ksh200,000 deposit was made.
The facility has since denied these claims.
