Kenya Navy Floors Dominant Countries In International Naval Sailing Championship
The Kenya Navy Sailing team finished fourth overall in the silver league of the just-concluded 14th Admiral’s Cup, which was held at the Indian Naval Academy in Ezhimala, India.
More than 33 foreign teams from Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East competed for gold and silver medals in the prestigious military sailing competition, which took place between December 8th and 14th.
The Kenyan Navy Sailors squad consisted of Captain Robinson Kiplangat, who served as Officer in Charge, Lieutenant Jackson Ndibo, and Second Lieutenant Catherine Mutuku.
The challenge tested naval teams on technical sailing expertise, collaboration, and quick decision-making as they handled the fluctuating winds off India’s coast.

Despite competing against experienced crews from major naval powers, the Kenyan squad remained consistent across numerous races.
While Kenya finished fourth, Team INA (India) won the overall championship, with Team NDA (India) and Team Poland finishing second and third, respectively.
The Admiral’s Cup is widely recognized as one of the most difficult inter-naval sailing competitions, requiring crews to display mastery of navigation, boat management, and tactical racing under duress.
Despite missing the podium, Kenya’s Navy outperformed teams from numerous traditional maritime powers, including Europe, Asia, the Americas, and the Middle East, despite having fewer resources and little international exposure.

While India has been largely dominating in previous editions of the regatta, countries like Brazil, the USA, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, and South Korea possessed significantly more experienced navies with long histories of competitive sailing.
Kenya’s performance, therefore, marked a significant milestone, underscoring the growing professionalism and competitiveness of the Kenya Navy in international maritime sports.
According to the organisers, the 2025 edition focused on seamanship and adaptability, reflecting real-world maritime conditions faced by naval forces.
By finishing just outside the podium in the highly competitive field, the Kenya Navy Sailing Team earned valuable experience and confidence ahead of future international regattas.
