ODM’s Gladys Wanga Leads Fundraising For Jirongo’s Funeral
Gladys Wanga, the governor of Homa Bay, has joined party members in a fundraising drive to help with the burial arrangements for Cyrus Jirongo, the late former Lugari Member of Parliament.
Wanga, speaking on Sunday, December 21, at the residence of the late former YK’92 top leader, stated that the ODM leadership had already given bulls and fish to be used as vegetables at Jirongo’s funeral.
She also stated that the party would contribute funds to purchase ugali, which would be served with the food they had provided.

“Najua tumekuja na mboga, lakini lazima mboga ikulwe na ugali. Nataka kuwaambia hawa viongozi watoe ugali,” Wanga said, prompting leaders present to contribute.
The monies were officially received by Lugari MP Nabii Nabwera, while Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi kicked off the fundraising with a Ksh100,000 gift.
He was followed by Suna East MP Junet Mohammed, who contributed Ksh200,000.
Migori Woman Representative Rosa Buyu donated Ksh50,000, while Kakamega Woman Representative and gubernatorial candidate Elsie Muhanda contributed Ksh200,000.

Senator Catherine Muma donated Ksh50,000, while Wanga closed the fundraising with Ksh300,000.

The late MP will be buried on December 30, 2025, at his first wife’s home in Lumakanda, where his parents were laid to rest.
Meanwhile, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has verified that the inquiry into Jirongo’s death is underway.
The police are looking for people of interest as they try to determine the complete facts behind the fatal crash.
