Family of Enoch Kibunguchy Demands Probe Into Former MP’s Death

The family of former Likuyani Member of Parliament Enoch Kibunguchy, who died on Tuesday, December 23, expressed worries about the circumstances surrounding his death.

Addressing the reporters at the deceased’s home in Kakamega County, Kibunguchy’s relatives stated that the former legislator died as a result of suspected food poisoning.

While urging for swift inquiries into Kibunguchy’s death, the family stated that their presumption was based on the former MP’s medical diagnosis while living.

According to the MP’s nephew, Kibunguchy became ill while at home, and many attempts to control his health failed, leading them to take him to the hospital.

“When he came here, we were trying to take care of him at home, but whatever we were trying to prevent was not going away. So that is when we brought him to the hospital,” said Kibunguch’s nephew.

“We were thinking that it might be something else, maybe blood pressure, but when the doctors did the test and came back saying that it was food poisoning, it raised a red flag, and we began retracing back,” the relative added.

Despite the diagnosis and attempts by medics to treat him, Kibunguchy’s condition worsened, with doctors revealing that the poison had severely harmed the former legislator’s body.

The family went on to dispute the degree and intensity of the disease, claiming that Kibunguchy’s infection was not consistent with their understanding of typical food poisoning instances.

“We have the details we cannot provide right now, and it is for the investigation team, and we are trying to think how the food poisoning might have come about, but the question is the aggressiveness of the food poisoning,” the nephew stated.

They further revealed that doctors later warned them that Kibunguchy was having a number of issues, including kidney failure, intestinal haemorrhage, and breathing difficulties.

“We even felt sorry for the doctors. They could come and tell us they are dealing with a failing kidney, intestinal bleeding in the stomach, and breathing issues,” the family revealed.

Meanwhile, Kibunguchy died after a long fight with illness. He died while being treated at Eldoret Hospital.

The 72-year-old succeeded the late Cyrus Jirongo as Lugari MP and served from 2003 to 2007.

He later became the Likuyani MP, where he served for two consecutive terms between 2013 and 2022.
