Poll Reveals People’s Most Preferred Successor To Raila Odinga
Babu Owino, Embakasi East Member of Parliament, has emerged as the most popular political person to follow the late Raila Odinga as the most popular leader of the Luo people, according to a new end-of-year opinion poll conducted by Infotrak.
Respondents from around the country named the politician, who is also a gubernatorial candidate in Nairobi, as the top option among a list of possible successors.
According to the December 2025 study, 33% of respondents believe Babu will emerge as the community’s next political kingpin.
They also expect Babu to take over Luo leadership after Raila Odinga’s death late this year.

Infotrak says the findings are based on a nationally representative sample of 1,000 respondents drawn from all 47 counties and analysed across regions, age groups and gender.
Infotrak says the findings provide an early snapshot of public sentiment but notes that political dynamics remain fluid and could shift as the 2027 election cycle gathers momentum.
The findings come amid ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The absence of Raila Odinga continues to reshape leadership dynamics within ODM strongholds and the broader national political landscape.
