UDA Announces Mandatory Costs for Aspirants Seeking Nomination
Kenyans interested in parliamentary seats on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket in 2027 will have to dig deeper into their pockets after the ruling party revealed additional fee requirements in a statement on January 21.
The UDA party has opened registration for its Aspirants’ Forum, with a tiered cost structure dependent on the elective seat sought.
Aspiring Members of the County Assembly (MCA) will pay the lowest fee of Ksh2,000 to earn a position in the party’s nomination process for the forthcoming elections.

Those seeking National Assembly seats, Women Representative roles, or Senate seats will be asked to pay Ksh5,000 to register as official aspirants with UDA.
Those interested in the gubernatorial campaign face the biggest expense, with the party placing the registration fee at KSh 10,000 for contenders seeking the county governor post on its ticket.
The party has made it plain that all of these expenses are non-refundable, which means that hopefuls would lose their money regardless of the outcome of the nomination process.
Registration is only available online through the party’s official portal, with payments allowed by M-Pesa or direct bank transfer to UDA accounts.
This cost structure is part of the preparations for the inaugural Aspirants Forum, which will be held on February 4 at the State House in Nairobi to examine nomination methods.
The forum aims to establish systems for what the party describes as “free, fair and transparent” nominations ahead of the 2027 General Election cycle across Kenya.
This move comes as the party conducts grassroots elections, with Phase III repeat elections scheduled for March 7, covering 20 counties, including Meru and Kiambu.

Phase II repeat polls are scheduled for March 28 and will be conducted across 22 counties, including Mombasa, Garissa, Kitui, and Kisumu, as part of the party’s internal reorganisation process.
The online registration portal for new aspirants to the Polling Centre Congress was opened on January 21 and is set to close on February 21.
President William Ruto is scheduled to chair a Special National Governing Council meeting on Monday, January 26, at State House to address party matters.
UDA claimed over 7 million members in late 2023, with 2.4 million participating in January 2026 grassroots elections held across 20 counties nationwide.
