Two senior diplomats from the Pakistan High Commission in Kenya were reportedly involved in a physical brawl inside the embassy in Kenya in an incident that has since sparked widespread attention on social media.

According to the claims by two Pakistani investigative journalists, the individuals at the centre of the scuffle were the country’s High Commissioner and his deputy.

This has raised concerns over conduct at one of Pakistan’s key foreign missions.

Investigative journalist Zahid Gishkori, speaking on his X account, claimed that the clash involved ‘two senior diplomats’ and described the confrontation as serious, prompting immediate attention from the police and security at the precinct.

A reported intense fight broke out between two senior diplomats at Pakistan’s mission abroad (in an African country), involving a physical scuffle; one diplomat has approached the local police,” Gishkori said in the post.

The reason for the fight was serious. The Foreign Ministry has taken immediate notice, and an inquiry is currently underway.”

Separately, according to India Today, journalist Shahzad Paracha also weighed in, directly identifying the location as Pakistan’s High Commission in Kenya and alleging that the fight involved the mission’s top two officials.

The High Commissioner to Kenya, Ibrar Hussain Khan, has been in office since September 2023, while his deputy is Adnan Javed Khan, both of whom are now at the centre of the unverified claims.

While details surrounding the cause of the dispute remain unclear, Gishkori maintained that the trigger was ‘quite serious’ and warranted urgent attention from Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He further noted that the foreign office had already initiated an inquiry after reviewing preliminary information related to the alleged confrontation at the commission, which is located on St Michael’s Road in Westlands, Nairobi County.

At the same time, following the incident, one of the two diplomats is said to have approached a police station in Nairobi to report the incident.

However, we could not immediately verify the same, as at the time of publishing.

As of now, Pakistan’s High Commission in Kenya has yet to comment on the matter, with no formal statement released to address the allegations circulating online.

Though rare, this is not the first time Pakistani diplomats have been linked to controversy involving physical altercations, as there have been past incidents that drew international scrutiny.

In 2003, former Pakistan Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Munir Akram faced allegations of assault involving a partner, a case that generated diplomatic tension before later taking a different turn during investigations.
